About that letter to Microsoft

December 6, 2006

I recently wrote a letter to Microsoft Corporation regarding the recycling of a non-functioning mouse and keyboard.  I won’t repeat myself, though if you’re interested you can read about it here.  It was written in a moment of frustration, though after some reflection, I’m less certain about the proper placement of that frustration.  I was immediately frustrated because I thought I was doing the right thing by replacing a tiny little transceiver only to have my efforts thwarted by the company’s planned obsolescence.  I was further frustrated by the thought that I had succumbed to the advertising pressures to be that this was an item I needed, though that purchase was made previous to me deciding to become more proactive in the practice of sustainability.

CFH Design Studio Website

September 19, 2006

It’s been 6 years coming, but the long awaited website is finally up and running.  It’s a little slow with the photos & needs a little tweaking.  Well, maybe a lot of tweaking.  There’s no fancy Flash or CSS or java scripts, just plain “old school” HTML.  I’ve had some time on my hands recently with the slow down in the real estate market, so I was able to pull out my 1,079 page HTML book/ flower press/ door prop and brush up on some web development skills (like I don’t have enough to do, staying up-to-date on my Autocad skills).  Hence, nothing too fancy for now.  Fortunately, I think I’m in a good spot with my business, focussing on end users with a need to update and/ or expand their existing homes.  It certainly won’t hurt to finally do a little self promotion at this time.

Enjoy!

Plyboo Tables

September 17, 2006

Wayne finally completed the assembly of my office tables.  They look amazing.  They are made from (2) 4′x8′ sheets of plyboo, natural steel legs from Room & Board and low profile steel “c” channel for support underneath.  The plyboo is finished with a waterbased urethane.  The tables I had previously were your typical architects tables: 2 filing cabinets and a solid panel door.  In need of more horizontal surface, we opted to upgrade.  That’s Lola, ejoying the new Flor (hides pet hair exceptionally well).

The Office Renovation

August 16, 2006

Bred out of a desire to become more organized (more productive), I began overhauling the office.  It was also a great opportunity to try out some eco-products.  Not that I believe we can save the world w/ the products we purchase, though I am a supporter of the idea that we “vote w/ our wallets”.  Of course, the most sustainable thing to do is nothing: don’t build, don’t eat meat, don’t drive, don’t breed.  Not very realistic for our consumerism/ status anxiety driven world.  Possibly, we can simply evolve into a society that makes environmentally, economically, and socially responsible choices.

Back to the office…..

I’m not necessarily endorsing these products just sharing
